Dimpa

Dimpa is a series about my relationship to working in film, which sustains my artistic practice. I work on film productions in order to make my own work. As a costume assistant, I use the large IKEA bags called Dimpas. They are enormous, and we carry them fully loaded, which demands considerable physical strength.

I decided to weave replicas of these Dimpas partly as a joke, but also as an homage to the different creative worlds that nourish one another. My work in film production is not only a source of income; it is also a deeply supportive and inspiring part of my life.

I wove the Dimpas using a ripstop structure—a highly durable weave used in military textiles and also the basis of the original IKEA bags. Mine, however, are woven from linen, becoming something like a meeting point between folklore and gorpcore.

I hand-dyed each bag in a different color because, to me, these bags are vessels for the vibrant stories they carry from one day to the next.
